Doolin. It might not sound like the most sophisticated name for a village, but it should be on your must-see list when visiting Ireland. On the west coast, near the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin is a place that I’m dying to see again. It was only a drive through the winding narrow roads that gave me a glimpse of Doolin.

The town has everything, stone walls lining the road, open green fields, a view of the ocean, a beach, the Cliffs of Moher in the distance and cute colored houses facing inland.

Exploring the nooks and crannies of the tiny roads, I was so fortunate to see ruins of old buildings and views that made me gasp for air with every turn of the head. The best part was that being alone on the road, you have stop to take in the view and capture it in some photos.

Doolin is known for its traditional Irish music, which is played nightly in the pubs. There are lots of things to see in do in the area. I plan to go back and stay in Doolin so that I can hear the music, perhaps watch the surfers hit the waves, explore Doolin Cave where the “Great Stakactite” was discovered, it kind of looks like a wet mop hanging form the ceiling. For the more adventurous, there are many rock climbing opportunities. I would be the kind to go hiking and exploring the surrounding archaeological sites such as the 6000-year-old Poulnabrone dolmen.

I could spend weeks basking in the beauty of Doolin and Ireland.

What villages have you visited and loved? Would you ever consider a quieter vacation in Ireland over say spending a week in the Caribbean or in Europe’s renowned capital cities?

  1. OMG. I can’t say it enough how amazing your photography is. STUNNING! I feel swept away by these posts. I have a gal pal who has always wanted to travel to Ireland and until your posts, I had no idea why but I DO NOW! Wow. I would definitely consider a quieter vacay through Ireland and when I do, I am calling you to plan my trip! LOL!
Thank you sooo much for sharing!

    1. Yeah Ireland isn’t known for its good weather but it has tons of history and beautiful landscapes to see. And if you ever go there, please do call me because I can plan the best trip ever!!!

  2. Those winding roads, amazing views, and picturesque villages … I want to go! I could almost hear the strains of traditional Irish music floating out of the photos. Thanks!

  3. Simple vacations to places like this are exactly what I prefer! I loved the bright lights of Paris, but give me a winding country road that will unfold eons of history and I’m a happy girl. Lovely little town! What is the pink building? The Pub?

  4. Someday I’ll take a very long vacation just to visit every single piece of Ireland. To me this land is pure magic. 🙂 I’m definitely in love.

  5. […] Welcome to Woman’s Day Wednesday again! I love supporting fellow authors and this one, Nicole Basaraba, is special to me. Nicole is a beautiful, young Canadian woman living in Brussels, Belgium. She writes about travel, cultures and writing. Nicole has traveled around Europe a bit since she’s been in Brussels and has brought us some gorgeous pictures and fun posts. You can read some of my favorites (Aachen, Germany; Brussels; and Prague) HERE, HERE and HERE. […]

  6. I ADORE Doolin! I spent 3 days there on a 2010 trip to Ireland and I plan on returning. Like your pictures! And – in response to one of the posts above, the PINK building is the Irish Sweater Shop. Slainte!

  7. Doolin just might be one of my fav little villages ever. I live in Baltimore, MD and visited Ireland several years ago. The music in Doolin was wonderful! I would love to go back one day. I would love to own a small piece of real estate there one day.
