The end is in sight – ROW80 check in

We’re coming up to less that two weeks left of this round. Where did the time go? I know that January and February flew by for me.
So I mentioned a few check-in’s ago that I might finish the first draft of my novel by the end of this round of ROW80. Well I am just shy of my weekly word goal (of 5,000) with 4, 670 words.
I have four chapters plotted, but knowing me they will be broken down into a few more chapters. I’ve read multiple sources that advise writers not to rush their endings. So instead of trying to finish by the end of this round, I will give myself until the end of March, which should be enough time.
What a relief it will be to finish this project. Not that it will be the end of the work (editing anyone?), but it will be complete, finished and it will be a personal accomplishment.
How’s everyone else doing? What did you do to celebrate your first finished piece of fiction?

My manuscripts go SO MUCH SLOWER now than they used to before husband, baby and blog. I know it’s the way of things, but I get all fired up when I see you bust out these big weeks. I can’t wait to see you in print.

Love the enthusiasm Jenny. Always makes me smile. I think it will be a few more weeks until I finish the first draft, and then it will be on to editing. A whole new process to develop. 🙂

Hey Nicole…. I love chapter plotting. I wonder if your chapters ever go in a different direction than you had anticipated?

I had my chapters outlined before I began writing, and I stayed on track although, I had two or three chapters that snuck in there without being planned, but they were necessary to get the story to where it needed to go. 🙂
Awesome, Nicole, and smart move giving yourself time to work out the ending properly. It is better to have it right than fast.

It does feel good, I’ve written more words on the WIP that probably all of my university papers in 4 years combined. I will have to edit it until she shines…maybe that will be my part of my goals for the next round of ROW80.
Great job, Nicole! There’s nothing like getting to the end of the first draft. Writing a book is a huge accomplishment. Keep up the awesome work!

Ooo…you might be onto something there, Nicole. In “bad” life moments, I do tend to insert comic quips to lighten the mood (my commentary around funerals is an example). No harm in having that in a story. 🙂

So much YAY!!! This is exciting. Glad you’re not rushing things. You’ve been making steady progress, so there’s no harm in taking longer with the end. At least it will be right when you get there. Good luck with the next few weeks! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Definitely a good thing giving yourself time to finish and not rushing through. I did that and short changed my ending. Working on fixing it in the edits.
